Identifying Latent Classes in Adolescents` Suicide Ideation Changes and Testing Ecological Factors as Determinants of Classes
Kwon Tae-Yeon

Abstract
This study were to identify latent classes depending on adolescents¡¯ change patterns in suicide ideation, to test determinants of classes based on ecological approach and to suggest strategies for prevention of adolescents¡¯ suicide problem. This study analyzed latent class applying Nagin¡¯s semi-parametric group-based approach using 2nd¢¦5th data from Korean Youth Panel Survey. Results showed that four latent classes were identified across change patterns of suicide ideation. Four latent classes were defined on the patterns as low-level group, intermediate-level group, decreasing group, high-level group. Result from multinomial logit analysis showed that gender, self-esteem, depression and drinking frequency among individual factor, parent attachment and parent violence among family factor, peer attachment
among peer factor, academic stress and school violence among school factor were significant determinants of the latent classes. Social welfare implications to prevent and intervene adolescents¡¯ suicide were discussed based on the findings.
